Saint Laurent

"The little prince of couture" as the press baptized him in the 1960s, is the heir to a fashion era shaped by Chanel and Dior of which he will be a student. He adds a new youthful spirit and his vision of women, which he dresses for all occasions. From the evening dress to the Saharan, from the star train to the fisherman's jacket, from sequins to perfecto.
With him, women start to wear a pea coat, tuxedo, trench coat, double-breasted jacket, which is quite innovative, and all of his shows are small revolutions.


He succeeds Christian Dior in 1957 at the head of the Maison following the sudden death of the founder, then in 1961 opens with Pierre Bergé his own Maison. It is the beginning of this rise to fame, supported by all the press.  Saint Laurent develops its ready-to-wear line and opens the Saint Laurent Rive Gauche boutique, develops a line of cosmetics and perfumes, and becomes an empire.


Some iconic collections: in 1965 the Mondrian collection which adapts the painter's abstract paintings to straight jersey dresses. In January 1966 the first tuxedo, and in July the pop Art collection.
